Children studying in secondary schools across remote areas of Karnataka are empowered through online digital classes and supported with learning materials.

This has helped bridge the educational resource gap and created a more conducive learning environment. The students are more engaged in learning and able to participate actively in classroom activities. Through this initiative, the organization continues to make a tangible difference in the lives of students and contribute towards building a more educated and equitable society.

Empowering Children of Remote Areas

Scarcity of teachers in Government schools has been a challenge. Despite efforts by the Government, better pay, better working conditions, and a better sense of purpose in private schools often draws educators from Government schools. The situation in backward districts of Karnataka has been critical. Lack of teachers, inadequate infrastructure, absence of access to alternative coaching facilities only enhances the challenge further.

To mitigate this situation NBI collaborated with e-Vidyaloka since 2017, to organize online classes for students in 5th, 6th, and 7th standards of local Government primary and secondary schools in 27 centers across Koppal, Raichur and Yadagiri districts of North Karnataka. The classrooms are digitized, internet connected, volunteer teachers, and classes are monitored through a local assistant. volunteers from around the world teach subjects like mathematics, science, and English to rural children. These volunteers conduct live, interactive classes using video conferencing tools. These live classes substantiate the scarcity of teachers and align their teaching content with the local state education boards to ensure that the curriculum is relevant and meets the educational standards.

The offerings also focus on the overall development of students, by including life skills and digital literacy.

Need Base India and eVidyaloka have been endeavouring to bridge the educational divide between urban and rural areas by harnessing the power of technology and the dedication of volunteer teachers. This model helps provide quality education to children who otherwise have limited access to good educational resources. So far, more than 6000 students from 25 schools have benefitted from this program.

Online Digital Classroom

Students in government schools in Karnataka receive various forms of support to ensure their education. This includes Text books, Uniform and mid-day meals. The students however, lack other basic resources like stationary, notebooks, pencils, pens etc. Most of the parents of the students from Government schools are underprivileged. To support these underprivileged students, NBI, undertakes to distribute notebooks to the students.

Learning Materials Support at Government Schools

This initiative was spread out in four districts benefiting a total of  8717 students:
